I am really sorry to hear that so many Jordanians are smoking and that the number of smokers is increasing. Lung cancer is a really terrible way to die! Even if the smoker doesn’t get cancer, there are other bad effects on health that usually shorten a smokers life by years. I encourage you to try to talk to your relatives about the dangers of smoking. If they will listen to you, maybe you can improve their health and lengthen their lives.
The men that sell stuff at traffic lights often ask me for money ‘for their kids to eat’, too. I tell them when they are ready to quit smoking away their children’s meals, I will supplement their income.
Yeah, my mom keeps saying to my brothers when she catchees them in the balcony that the whole world stops and we start here… As for talking to my cousins, those whose houses are made of glass don’t throw stones at other people’s houses… let them smoke their hearts out.
Yeah, sort of reminds me of beggars in Europe who beg for money and you know will end up spending on alcohol… I think these addictions do indeed drain the family’s funds…especially when funds are less than 40 Jds a month!
I don’t know…it is possible… but it seems exaggerated…I mean a lot of people smoke… but is it really out of ten people you know, nine smoke? … I will start counting!
I am wondering, do American cigarette companies advertise a lot in Jordan? These companies have gone to many other countries with their slick ads which equate smoking with coolness. They aim their ads at kids and teens to get them hooked for life. It is shocking how effective the ads can be!
I remember a few anti-smoking ads on TV from years ago. The most impressive was when Yul Brynner was dying of cancer. He was a famous actor best known for his role in “The King and I”. He also starred as the Pharaoh in “The Ten Commandments” opposite Charlton Heston’s Moses. Yul came on TV, talked about his cancer, and begged people not to smoke. He died about a month later. What he did got a huge amount of attention in the media.
Here in the U.S. the major tobacco companies have been sued by many people and even State governments for lying about the terrible health effects of smoking. They have been forced to pay billions of dollars in damages. However, the same companies are still hooking millions of young smokers in other countries on their deadly products. What they do really disgusts me!

It’s sad really, to see so many people escaping to cigarettes.
does the report mention the numbers for people who have quit?
Reply
No one cares about those who quit
it does not matter… it does not make news… what matters are those who smoke

Hey David,
Yeah, my mom keeps saying to my brothers when she catchees them in the balcony that the whole world stops and we start here… As for talking to my cousins, those whose houses are made of glass don’t throw stones at other people’s houses… let them smoke their hearts out.

صحيح، أعتقد انه في هذه الحالات يجب أن يكون حجم العينة و نسبة الخطأ موجودان حتى لا نأخذ هذه الأرقام كأنها منزلة! و نعتبرها خلص ما في مجال للنقاش فيها
