From Germany

Maybe It really is not appropriate to write about this, with the current political climate. But we  are in Germany and we are loving it…. we do feel a bit away from the situation in Lebanon and Gaza, but the people and the suffering are in our minds.  We ran into few Lebanese people who were informing the others about a demonstration tomorrow, and we found ourselves considering participating. I,  as the team leader still have not approved, but we will sit down and discuss it as a team and decide about it democratically.

This probably will be a very clumsy post as I will need to go back to my team, who are sitting in a studio right now, attending the Spanish presentation. I can hear shouts of excitement and clapping from here.

We got here two days ago, to be shocked at the beauty of Muenster, it is the perfect time of the year, long days,  green everywhere. And since our hostel is almost a 5 star hotel, where the rooms are spacious and clean and they over look a perfect scene… the flowing river! the food is lovely, the workshops are really interesting. The studio where we work is very vivid, it actually is an amazing mixture of ideas and colours and music and very funky people running around so full of life…… But What I love most is that my youngsters are dead tired and are in bed every night by 12:00!!! Yes they are the best team i had so far… I wont say more, because i dont want to jiks it. They are very excited that they wake up at 6:00 every morning to go and discover the city, since we have very busy schedule… where we stop at around 10 or 11 every night.

One of the most interesting things in this camp is that each one of the youngsters is participating in a completely different project, which means each one of them will have completely different experiences…. The one thing in common in all projects is they are learning the process of making a movie, how to use a camera and learning about all the work that is required in the editing rooms, where the right music is chosen and the right cuts have to be used and put together in order to make what we finally see as a movie on our TVs.

I have to go now…

  • It sounds like the young people in your tour group are enjoying themselves very much! Are they all Jordanian kids? I don’t know much about making movies, but I do enjoy watching them. :) Is there a film school in Muenster?

Speaking of movies, I just watched “Cold Mountain” for the first time. It was a very powerful and sad story set during the American Civil War. The movie focused mostly on what happened to civilians during the war. There were a lot of horrible things happening far from the fields of battle! Included with the movie was a DVD of extra stuff with a lot of interviews of cast and crew and a documentary about the making of the film. I really like to watch the extra stuff. It has taught me a lot about what goes into making a movie.

I hope that you and your youngsters will enjoy the rest of your visit to Germany!

  • Hi Madas,

I was chatting with my German blog friend Mel yesterday. I mentioned to her about you being in Muenster. Mel said that she lives about 30 km from Muenster. Interesting coincidence! So, I asked her if there was anything fun for young people to do in Muenster. She couldn’t think of anything in particular. She said it was a university town and that she occasionally shops there. Just trying to be helpful.
One more interesting thing about my friend Mel is that she and I have several Iraqi blog friends in common who are now all in Amman. Mel is going to fly to Amman in about a week to meet them! These friends of ours have met with Zeyad a couple of times in Amman and I found you through Zeyad’s link. It is just interesting how the internet can bring people together!
I would like to give you a link to one of my friend’s blogs. She is a 22 year old Iraqi student of English Literature. She is in Amman now and I think she might like to stay for a while. She is an extremely bright person. If you have the time and interest, I am sure that she could benefit from meeting someone like you. Here is the link:
