one year of blogging…toefl…et al!
I am celebrating one year of blogging! today is a good day compared to the series of disastrous events of yesterday…but since today is the first day of the new modified me… I feel great!
Such a lot of troubles, I did not hear the alarm and i woke up very late, I saw a perfectly new dimple on my face! did not have time to finish cooking… and in the rush of it i burnt the pot… I saved part of the food thank God! then i decided to clean the pot, and i remembered a housewife advice, i was given few years ago. Put some of the clothes detergent in the pot and put it to boil, and all the burnt stuff will surface to the top….HOWEVER the lady forgot to tell me that if it boils it rises and spills! I had to rush.. all the detergent spilled with whatever food was left in the pot… MAN, that was ugly! since there is a tiny space between my stove and the wall, all that water went inside and i can not dry it… soon i will see little insects coming out of there… YUKH!
But this was only the beginning of my day… decided to try my new spring pants, they are so tight that I couldn’t sit down! ( does that mean i have gaining weight la sama7 Allah?) so i decided to sit down and start working to meet the deadline…the internet did not work for a while, and the documents i was waiting for did not arrive by mail, and i sat there staring at the computer thinking about bloody MURPHY!…. then it was time to go and do my TOEFL exam…The attending lady was a total bitch, talked to me as if i have been just released from the idiots hospital! 3 years in germany and i started putting the verb at the end of the sentence, One year in saudi, and every sentence is trailed with my Indian “no prrrobilim madam!”… but i did well… very well actually… unless they would hate the stupid essay they asked us to write…
Did you ever hear of such a discouraging series of events? It isn’t the big troubles in life that require character. Anybody can rise to a crisis and face a crushing tragedy with courage, but to meet the petty hazards of the day with a laugh- I really think that requires SPIRIT.
It’s the kind of character that I am going to develop. I am going to pretend that life is just a game which I must play as skillfully and fairly as I can. If I lose, I am going to shrug my shoulders and laugh… and if i win i will celebrate with modesty

you described an ordinary day in my life. the norm is for murphy's law to apply. anything else is worth blogging about! then above all you deal with mental midgets. gosh i hate them.
i can assure you that unless your wrote this post for your assay, they will like it (not that this crap, it is actually better, *wink*)

here's another useful housewife advice from the older woman: if you decide to clean a pot with a burnt inside, just put in a tiny bit of water (and yes, the emphasis is on tiny here) with some detergent and watch it when you heat it up slowly, because it might rise and then spill and then you have a mess and stuff ….
way to go on your test, woman! you should've just told that toefl-bitch that you use Yoda English, he has the perfect word order down!

I'm glad to hear about the character you want to have from now on, although i believe a character can never change, unfortunately. However attitudes might.
Last year I saw a guy who was 30 years old and had an accident while he was riding his bike, and became paralyzed from the neck downwards. That happened 7 years ago and now he's living alone, running his own busniess on the internet with some help from friends. He keeps comign to the hospital every 3-4 weeks with nasty infections in his bones and blood yet he is very optimistic, very smart and looking forward to the future.
Another lady is 43 and 20 years ago her husband shot her in the spine and she's become paraplegic. Whenevr i go into her room the music is playing loud and i find her singing or reading the bible and telling me how glad she is to have a caring husband and a lovely child.
and guess what…… those are the ONLY 2 patients that i saw that week who were NOT on any anti-epressants. The sickest ones were the most cheerful !!
It's all about the attitude,
and hey what was your score before the essay? say it
one of my freidns scored a 300, full score !

Do you know what is one thing i really really appreciate about being in the States? the positivity and optimisim of the people… everyone smiles, everyone tells you good things, everyone is happy with what they have… everyone is happy… compared to what i am used to in Amman…!Honestly i think what makes America America is the good attitude. By the way i am optimist by nature… so the new me is not going to be difficult to achieve!

Iam not in the complement trade, I repeat what I once said ,you capture a moment of your day and turn it into an occurrence ,a familiar portray in detail ,your journal in and among my favorites . madas Mabrouk on your first toddle year, good way to sprint on.
Talking about books, building an interest by a non fictions doctrines on eastern religions and philosophy, you seem to have read all what I know and more, but I can recommend an old in time and fashion, writer just in case you don’t know her, Ayan Rand, provocative and visionary writer in my opinion, she really answers some key questions about human happiness and issues pertaining to individuals verses society , I read the Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, both of which I enjoyed immensely. They may lack the storytelling zest that many people are used to , my best was We the Living ,about Kara a young woman struggles to preserve her values –.
Got back from a week’s business trip, the day after the Sunday’s detrimental french no vote, on the Europe. Cons-tit. Refer-en. I was dazed, not by the vote, as much by the attitude of the people Monday, business as usual no body in the office seems to want to talk about the event!! Not that they don’t have the time, through the 10 working hours we spend to gather, they talk and plenty, about what to do tonight, or the week ends, and more talk about their one year planed ahead vacation, and some talk about their early retirement in details where and when with no worries of tomorrow . Tuesday the political apparatuses moves to change to the new reality, Wednesday, it is all in the past.”Kefaya”
PS.I thought of Abu Mahjoub ,he will not survive in Europa , no materials to sustain his cartoons

you know what? I was actually pleased about the french voting results! I mean at the beginning people were voting “yes” because of the dream of better Europe… but there were not enough information. Now that people know more, they are aware of the outcome of this “yes”. What is great about Europe is the sense of society, people ARE important, what happenes when people become less important or not important at all? and money and business becomes the most important? Also, People are still struggling after the Euro, comfortable families can barely make it till the end of the month… they are still ok, because the socialist Europe is taking care of them… but what happens, when it stops? I hate to see all the industry going to Third world countries because it is cheaper… That was me blaberring about my views on how Europe should be

I have a seen a movie about Ayn Rand long time ago… it was very interesting, and for a while I read about her, but never read what she wrote… if she is good, maybe i will check her books out… actually at the moment, i am very much into modern Arab writers… some of them are brilliant…..Ahdaf Soueif, Dina abu Jaber, Rabee Almudine, haidar haidar…..etc… i am also becoming very curious on how Islam views women, so i was thinking of getting into that…maybe layla ahmad, Amina wadud…etc…
About abu mahjoob, isn't he brilliant? I just adore him

Under no pretence I should be excused for my mix-up, what was meant for madas went to Sammar B. my apologies for you both.
Madas this is what would be, my comment on your comment, I don’t think I know what on earth I am talking about, but I hope I did convey my good intentions.
“madas, my salutations, your portray of Arab writers dwarf me to admit you are the Arabic master by your portfolio .My last reading few months ago a novel “Kout3aa min Ouropa” by Radwa Ashour, currently I am off and on reading “Elketaab wal Kuraan” by Dr.Mohamed Shahrour tough reading .
Ahdaf Soueif I remember reading her English short stories Aisha !! Diana Abu-Jaber I dropped her after Arabian Jazz .
I wish I can be of help to your perusal on how Islam views women ,but I am cretin you will discover the view varies from one school/sect to another ,good luck madas ,By the way I was and still is fascinated by Shick Imaam political songs and the works of Ahmad Fouad Najem, further more the woks of Salah Jaheen”Al-Ruba3yat”and of course Alabnoudi beautiful readings of his Egyptian dialectal poetry.
Wish you well madas, you got my attention” .You are smiling haa? You think it is funny ?I am dead Abashed. drop me a line to wash my rattled feelings .

For madas and Sammar B
I am at loss for words, except for my sincere regrets for both madas and Sammar B, yet I am very disappointed with my self for an unintentional blundere, as it is contrary to my true nature. If I can make up to the dreaded mix up, don’t spare me, but please don’t make walk the quick sand way, I have no wish to be the point to close the triangle.
It is not a game, but a fact that I am sorry .

yeah i agree with amny of what you said, in that everyone smiles, everyone likes to tell you good news, everyone appreciates what they have, mazboot, but not everybody is happy even if they smile or do all of that. I guess many people are sad and worse, many are soooo lonely. Yes i'ma doctor here and i see all those 80 and 90-year old people who come to the hospital, spend weeks and weeks without any visitor and you should look at their faces when when they tell me they have children and grandchildren and nobody visted or called so far, and they the only person they talk is their dog or cat, and guess what when they die all the relatives appear, out from no where!!!
i think people in amman are more happy despite the 150-cm kashra they carry on their faces.
hope you'll be always be happy

i think this is one of things i will always be grateful for in our society… the family values… although sadly enough, people are starting to walk away from all the good things…. I have done some work with different mukhayamat in jordan… and you will be shocked at the amount of tragedies there… but at least this is still not the norm, and we are still far from it… actually my next post will be about how society has been changing… hareega…I appreicate having people like you in the world…. it is just a better pleace… so thank you
