The thing is this is really possible, you can't simply apply this to people you know to know if this is true, because you represent a very small percentage of the Jordanian population. The problem is that in Islam beating is allowed, I am not sure what are the rules and the situation in which it is alowed, but since people tend to abuse religion, what a perfect excuse to beat the wives.
