60% of Jordanian women support being beaten by their husbands
This is really interesting,
There is an article in Al Arabiya newspape says that 60% of Jordanian women support being beaten by their husbands. At first i was very outraged, thinking that this much be a flawed survey. Because if I apply this the people i know, i really dont know 60 women who want to be beaten…. But at a second thought i decided to look at this objectively… what if this true? wht if actualy 60% of Jordanian women think that it is ok to be beaten by their husbands? i believe that the coming generation will have a very low self esteem if they come out of mothers who believe that they should be beaten. and if this true, why do you think it is true?

Mariam,
This is very disturbing…….

I just read the article, It actually says over 80% support wife-beating… This is very depressing.. I just posted it on my blog. Thank you for pointing it out.

That is why women in other places take self defense classes, in some schools it is obligatory. I would like to see a man beating his wife and getting some trained movement back from her! maybe if few women hit their husbands back in Jordan, mene will learn how to respect their wives.

Wow, this is really shocking, i can not believe that in Jordan the numbers are this high. The thing is this is really possible, you can't simply apply this to people you know to know if this is true, because you represent a very small percentage of the Jordanian population.
The problem is that in Islam beating is allowed, I am not sure what are the rules and the situation in which it is alowed, but since people tend to abuse religion, what a perfect excuse to beat the wives.

Rose, we take self defense classses here as well, but maybe it is a good idea to make them obligatory at schools. If my husband tries to beat him, i will change his sexual orientation!!!
