Wassim
We had lunch with Wassim Today. He is in his late fifties but I consider him one of my best friends! (I do have an interesting choice of friends).
I don’t know where to start with Khalo(uncle) Wassim as I call him. He is the hard working, intellectual type of guy, he is very funny and very smart, he is very spiritual but extremely open minded and he is so loving. We have lunch with him on weekly basis, and every week our lunch ends up taking few hours, because we get into one of our Freudian/Nitscheien/Sartrian/Islamic/Machuvelan discussions. At the beginning I was very curious about him, so I started inventing topics, after a while I realized that I actually love talking to him, and now if I don’t open a topic he does! Khalo is a very international guy, he has been around, he lived all over the middle east, then took 10 years off to study and research in London (isn’t that so cool?)
Today, we went to this very garlicky Chinese restaurant, the food was excellent and the smell was even better! our topic of the week was about Darwin and the evolution theory, I was one of the people who most disagreed with this theory, mainly because our understanding of religion dictates us to fight such a theory, but Khalo managed not only to convince me that it is actually valid, but he gave me so many proofs that Quran does not disagree with it! He also made me realize that I should never take anything for granted no matter how many people believe blindly in it, never to accept things without questioning, regardless of the source. Now I am all for reading and researching about the theory of evolution.
I honestly believe that i am very lucky in knowing some of the people who cross my path. It seems to me that there is a a certain trend in the way i chose my friends. People like khalo wassim interest me a lot, because for me there is something so stimulating in having mind games, intense controversial conversations, and getting to know moderns revolutionary ideals. It makes me feel alive.
